ABOUT THE CONTEST
The 31st Annual Best in Indiana Journalism Awards recognizes outstanding performance in journalism in 2009. The contest is the largest journalism contest in the state and is sponsored by the Indiana Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
Finally, you, your colleagues, and your organization can gain the recognition you deserve in the state’s only “open” Indiana journalism contest. Entrants do not need to be members of SPJ, and entries can be submitted by news organizations or individuals.
The contest showcases the best in Indiana journalism, funds SPJ scholarship programs, and allows your name to be heralded at the awards banquet. This year, the banquet will take place Friday, April 23 at the Indianapolis Marriott North, 3645 River Crossing Parkway. Enter your journalism triumphs, and mark your calendars now!
ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY 5 P.M. FEBRUARY 1, 2010.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who judges? Does it change every year?
Judging is done by other volunteers in other SPJ chapters from around the country in order to keep the process impartial. In exchange, SPJ-Indiana chapter members are recruited to judge other chapters’ award contests. If you would like to volunteer to be a judge, please email info@spjcontest.com.
Who won last year?
The list of last year’s winners can be found HERE.
Can I nominate myself for awards?
Yes. The contest is open to submissions from organizations and individuals. However, some special categories like Journalist of the Year work better when you’re sponsored by someone like an editor or news director. Please check the submission rules for full details.
How long has this contest been around?
The contest has been honoring the best of the best in Indiana journalism for over 30 years. This is the 31st annual contest.
How do I use the online system?
We’ve tried to make the system as user-friendly as possible. Read a quick tutorial HERE if you get stuck. And, if you get really stuck, you can always contact us at info@spjcontest.com.
Why does it cost more online ?
There is a $2.00 fee per online entry to offset the credit card processing fees charged by the bank and Paypal.
